March 22, 2010:   SMS ANNOUNCES HONOR AND MERIT ROLL STUDENTS
Head of School Margaret R. Broad is pleased to announce the names of students who have earned a place on the St. Margaret’s School honor and merit rolls for the second trimester of the 2009-2010 academic year.

March 10, 2010:   STUDENTS VENTURE TO EGYPT AND EXPLORE THE ANCIENT KINGDOM
A group of 27 students, faculty, alumnae and parents ventured to Egypt, spending 5 days in Upper Egypt on the River Nile visiting the Valley of the Kings and Queens, Karnak temple, Thebes, Luxor, and a Nubian school in Aswan.

November 12, 2009:   LOCAL STUDENT TO COXSWAIN FOR CLEMSON UNIVERSITY
Meghan Sisk ’10 of Goochland daughter of Mark and Jane Sisk signed her letter of intent to Clemson University on Nov. 12.

St. Margaret’s fall athletes were recently honored at an awards breakfast for their hard work and dedication throughout the season.

May 15, 2009:   ST. MARGARET’S HONORS SPRING ATHLETES
St. Margaret’s spring athletes were recently honored at an awards breakfast for their hard work and dedication throughout the season.

May 8, 2009:   GIVE THE GIFT OF LIFE AT ST. MARGARET’S BLOOD DRIVE
Local residents have a convenient opportunity to donate blood on Wednesday, May 20 in the St. Margaret’s School Ball Memorial Gymnasium from 2 – 7 p.m.

April 3, 2009:   ST. MARGARET’S STUDENT SELECTED AS ART CONTEST FINALIST
St. Margaret’s junior Amelia Chen of Taipei, Taiwan, was recently selected as a finalist in the Fourth Annual Lucerne The Art of Dairy Art Contest, “Taste of Moo-sic.” As a finalist, Chen replicated a design she submitted on paper onto a 5’x 8’ life-size cow sculpture.

April 3, 2009:   ST. MARGARET’S ANNOUNCES HONOR AND MERIT ROLL STUDENTS
Head of School Margaret R. Broad is pleased to announce St. Margaret’s honor and merit rolls for the second trimester of the 08/09 school year. Students named to the honor roll have earned an average of 90 or above with no grade below a B. Local students include seniors Corbin Brooks of Millers Tavern and Anna-Beth Lawler of Sandy Point, and junior Abby Odell of Tappahannock.

March 27, 2009:   STUDY CONFIRMS: GIRLS’ SCHOOL GRADUATES HAVE AN EDGE
St. Margaret’s School graduates know they are prepared for the challenges and choices of their first year in college. New research confirms that girls’ school graduates have an edge over their coed peers.

March 6, 2009:   ST. MARGARET’S TRACK TEAM COMPETES IN LIS CHAMPIONSHIP
The St. Margaret's indoor track team competed in the League of Independent Schools Championship on Feb. 21. Senior Caroline Casey '09 of Richmond placed third in the 3200 meter individual race with a time of 11:56.

February 27, 2009:   ST. MARGARET’S STUDENTS RECEIVE POETRY, ART AWARDS
Seven St. Margaret’s students were recently recognized by the Essex County Women’s Club for their winning entries in a local art and poetry contest. Amelia Chen ’10 of Taipei, Taiwan, received the best in show award for her black and white pencil drawing.

February 20, 2009:   SMS STUDENTS CREATE ART COLLECTION FOR ESSEX LIBRARY
Students in St. Margaret’s Art for Community Service afternoon activity recently donated a collection of “Artful Storybooks” based on Aesop’s Fables to the Essex County Library.

February 18, 2009:   ST. MARGARET’S HONORS WINTER ATHLETES
St. Margaret’s winter athletes were recently honored at an awards breakfast for their hard work and dedication throughout the season. The banquet marked the end of the winter athletic season. The softball, soccer, golf and crew teams will soon begin spring sports practice.

February 10, 2009:   ST. MARGARET’S STUDENTS MAKE HAVEN DONATION
St. Margaret’s senior class recently donated handmade blankets to The Haven Shelter & Services. Senior Class President Flo Snyder and Holly Wever-Christian of Walkerton presented the blankets to Sandra Longest, community relations coordinator for the The Haven.

February 4, 2009:   ST. MARGARET’S STUDENTS VOLUNTEER AT SPECIAL OLYMPICS
Thirteen St. Margaret’s National Honor Society students served as volunteer at the Special Olympics Virginia Alpine Skiing Championships at Wintergreen Resort Jan. 26-27. This is the fourteenth year that St. Margaret’s students have assisted with this event.

ST. MARGARET’S SENIOR PARTICIPATES IN PRESIDENTIAL YOUTH INAUGURAL CONFERENCE
St. Margaret’s senior Olivia Lamar of Madison, Va., attended the presidential inauguration as part of the Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference (PYIC), a five-day program that provides participants with a deeper understanding of the history behind the electoral process and the traditions surrounding the presidential inauguration.

December 16, 2008:   NEWMAN SELECTED TO STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM IN SCOTLAND
Hannah Newman, a junior at St. Margaret’s School, was recently selected by Woodberry Forest School to attend a co-educational summer study abroad program in Scotland.

December 15, 2008:   ST. MARGARET’S CELEBRATES THE HOLIDAY SEASON WITH SERVICE
St. Margaret’s students and faculty recently donated stockings stuffed with gifts and toiletries to The Salvation Army.

November 12, 2008:   ST. MARGARET’S HONORS FALL ATHLETES
Five local girls were among several students who earned recognition for their athletic accomplishments during St. Margaret’s Annual Fall Sports Breakfast on Nov. 5.

November 6, 2008:   ST. MARGARET’S STUDENTS HOLD MOCK ELECTION
St. Margaret’s Senior Corbin Brooks, a day student from Essex County, thinks it’s important for the U.S. president to be able to relate to people but also possess the composure and knowledge to tackle problems. Sophomore Hallie Smith says the president should be able to make decisions under pressure, do what is right for the people, and keep American morals and needs in mind while also helping other countries.

November 3, 2008:   PROFESSIONAL WOMEN VISIT ST. MARGARET’S FOR CAREER DAY
On Nov. 3, St. Margaret’s students discussed career options, higher education and women in the workplace with more than 40 professional women, many of them St. Margaret’s alumnae.

October 20, 2008:   THREE SMS STUDENTS NAMED ADVANCED PLACEMENT SCHOLARS
Three graduates of the St. Margaret’s School Class of 2008 have earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program (AP) exams.

October 10, 2008:   SCOTTIES CLAIM TOP SPOT IN CROSS COUNTRY MEET
The St. Margaret’s Cross Country Team claimed the top spot against West Point during a tri-meet at home Oct. 8. Essex County fielded three JV runners for the competition.

September 22, 2008:   STUDENTS COMPLETE RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER SWIM
On Sept. 14, twenty-two St. Margaret’s students and faculty jumped in the Rappahannock River to compete in the annual one mile River Swim.

September 22, 2008:   STATE ATTORNEY ADDRESSES INTERNET SAFETY AT SMS
Assistant Attorney General Lawrence “Chip” Muir is no stranger to the dangers of the Internet. As a state attorney who prosecutes computer crimes, he is all too familiar with the consequences of misusing a computer.

September 19, 2008:   SCOTTIES DEFEAT RED DEVILS AT HOME
The St. Margaret’s Field Hockey Scotties defeated the Lancaster Red Devils 2-1 during the third game of the season Sept. 16.

September 2, 2008:   NEW SCHOOL YEAR OFFERS NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR LOCAL STUDENTS
Day students at St. Margaret’s school are learning more than the basics as they return for the 2008-2009 school year. The 39 students are part of a global community committed to the growth of young women in every area of their lives.

September 2, 2008:   ST. MARGARET’S APPRECIATES COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
St. Margaret’s School held its annual Community Lunch Aug. 25 for more than 35 area board members, business executives, government officials and neighbors.

August 22, 2008:   NEW ATHLETIC COMPLEX ASSET TO SCHOOL, COMMUNITY
For the second fall sports season, St. Margaret’s will be taking advantage of their cross-country trail and playing fields at the new athletic complex on Sycamore Drive in Tappahannock.

July 14, 2008:   TEACHERS ON THE BAY CELEBRATES ITS 20TH YEAR AT ST. MARGARET'S
Now in its twentieth year, Teachers on the Bay, a summer graduate- level course run in partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and Virginia Commonwealth university, brings elementary and secondary teachers here to learn how to take the science and magic of this water to their own students.

June 3, 2008:   ST. MARGARET’S STUDENTS HONORED AT AWARDS BANQUET
St. Margaret's School students have won academic awards and special prizes that make them eligible for college scholarship consideration if they apply to and are accepted by the sponsoring institutions. The awards were presented at the school's year-end Academic Awards Banquet on Friday, May 30.

May 31, 2008:   ST. MARGARET’S GRADUATES 28 SENIORS
St. Margaret's School graduated 28 members of the Class of 2008 on Saturday, May 31. Graduates of this class will be attending some of the nation’s top colleges, including 6 colleges in Virginia, schools in 10 additional states including Colorado, New York, and Georgia, and one school in Switzerland.
