Accreditation: St. Margaret's is accredited by the Southern Association of College and Schools and the Virginia Association of Independent Schools. Founded in 1921, SMS is one of six Church Schools in the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia.

Membership: St.Margaret's is a member of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, the National Association of Episcopal Schools, National Coalition of Girls' Schools and many other professional associations.

Enrollment: 118 boarding students, 31 day students

Teaching Faculty: 32, 47 baccalaureate and 25 advanced degrees, 30 faculty and administrators live on campus, 29 women faculty, 6 men faculty. The combined teaching experience of the SMS faculty totals more than 250 years

Minimester, a two-week winter term when students can take enrichment courses or go on an educational trip

River Program, an emphasis that spans the curriculum, co-curriculum and residential life and exposes girls to hands-on science, water sports, and volunteer service

Independent Study Program, an opportunity for seniors to spend two weeks as an intern in a field of potential career interest

International Exchanges, an option to spend a month or more studying in Australia or New Zealand at a sister school that also is named for St. Margaret of Scotland
